Travel Information for the Conference

Travel Information – HFRN-Conference, Salzburg 2020

How to get to Salzburg:

Salzburg is on the train line between Munich and Vienna. There is at least one train per hour in either direction. (see www.oebb.at and www.bahn.de).

If you are travelling by car, please remember that in order to use the motorway in Austria, you need to pay a toll charge. You can buy the badge at petrol stations along the motorway south of Munich.

Salzburg has its own airport; moreover, the airports in Munich and Vienna are within easy reach. Trains from Vienna Airport take about 3 hours (see www.oebb.at); trains from Munich Airport round about the same time (see www.bahn.de).

Salzburg Airport is very close to town; bus line 2 takes you to the main station; no 10 to the town centre (https://www.salzburg-airport.com/en/flights-arrival/arrival-to-the-airport/public-transportation/).

Public transport in Salzburg:

Salzburg has an extensive O-Bus system. Tickets are available at the ‘Trafik’ (news agents) all over town (there is one in the departure hall at the airport and one in the main station), or at machines at selected bus stops. (Paying the bus driver directly is possible but more expensive.) You can choose between single tickets and 24-h tickets, which need to be time-stamped on the bus.

For details on the Salzburg bus system see also https://salzburg-verkehr.at/.

How to get to the venue:

The conference takes place at Unipark Nonntal, Erzabt-Klotz-Str 1. This is close to bus stops Justizgebäude, where bus lines 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 25 stop. It is also within very easy walking distance of the old town (about 10 minutes to the cathedral). Busses 3, 5, 6 and 25 will take you directly from the main station to bus stop Justizgebäude.

The venue:

Our conference takes place in room 1.003 to 1.007 on the first floor, as well as in HS 2 on the ground floor. Coffee breaks will be on floor -1. There are easy-access facilities on floor 1; further facilities can be found on floor -2.

The lecture rooms are equipped with PCs, these all have audio systems, the usual Office programmes and VLC Media Player. Eduroam is available in the building.

Where to stay:

We have reserved rooms in the hotel ‘Motel One Salzburg-Süd‘ (https://www.motel-one.com/en/hotels/salzburg/hotel-salzburg-sued/; careful, there is another Motel One in Salzburg).

The offer is € 82,05 per night for a single room, including breakfast; € 110,10 for a double, also including breakfast. To book: write to <res.salzburg-sued@motel-one.com> quoting “Historical Fictions”. We have this price fixed until 1 December.

The hotel is Alpenstraße 92-94, about 3 km from the Old Town. The next bus stop is ‘Polizeidirektion’, which is served by busses 3 and 8, so it can be easily reached from our venue and the town centre.

There are also plenty of other hotels in town, also in the old town (see https://www.salzburg.info/en/travel-info/tourist-information/service-center).
